In my last post, I mentioned a trip to a local park in Mascoutah, Illinois. After a great day at Horseshoe Lake and Holten State Park, my friend and I made our way to one of our favorite spots to bird watch. There were several species of ducks and geese that we caught, some which I’ve been able to identify and some I’m still unsure about.
Below is (what I believe is) a Pilgrim Goose. According to Wikipedia, this breed of goose is listed as critical by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The geese in the photo on the right look similar to the Chinese Geese, though the coloring seems off, so I can’t be certain.
This cutie looks like a white Pekin Duck, which, while they are considered good companions and are a common pet, they also make up 95% of duck meat consumed.
You can check out more photos from this trip in my gallery and if you can help identify any of them, please message me and let me know!
